Responding to the musical experience

The children can then come together and discuss what they discovered through their exploration around the experiences, and listen and review with their peers. This allows the children to become critical thinkers, as well as audience members, who can interact after the experience to deepen their knowledge and further their ideas (Bullard, 2010). Focus questions the educator can ask include:

  • What have we learnt about the musical culture of Ireland today?

  • What have we learnt about the musical culture of Mexico today?

  • What have we learnt about the musical culture of New Zealand today?

  • How are these cultures different to ours?

  • What did we like about the experiences?

The children can then write a paragraph or two into a journal, which will entail there thoughts and ideas that they have created from the musical experiences. Beginning sentence ideas for their journal entries can be presented by the educator on the white board such as:

  • My favourite part of the musical experiences today was.....

  • I enojoyed the musical culture of.......

  • I learnt today that.......
