The dance environment

The Dance environment was designed to be spacious, cultural and non-distracting, that brings in the spirtuality and wholeness that a dance curriculum can offer. The interactive whiteboard at the front of the classroom will be used to display, excite and allow the children to visualise the cultures of India, Africa and South America. Toward the back of the room a temporary mini stage will be set up for the children to create shows of the dancing cultures of the three continents, with plenty of space in front for children to watch, practice and create their own dance. An abundance of culturally themed costumes will be available for the children to dress-up in, to gain the full role play experience.

The classroom will be designed so that the child has control over which parts of the dance cultures they wish to participate in. For example, if the child is deeply intrigued by the tribal dance of Africa, they can proceed to the station where the instruments are available to create the tribal music, to practice his tribal dance with.

The educator can scaffold learning around the room, moving to and from each of the areas, facilitating the children's learning.
